The multicore trend has brought forth a variety of computer architectures suitable for numerical simulation. Nowadays there is no longer a single driving force for numerical performance. To make efficient use of the hardware the programmer must address multiple architectural features at the same time – otherwise he will face a performance time warp to the early 2000’s. The talk will give an overview of modern multi-/manycore architectures and point out essential programming issues which are prerequisite to further benefit from advancements in processor technology
