Isogeometric Finite Elements

Prof. Dr. Bernd Simeon, TU Kaiserslautern

12 May 2011, 17:00; Location: S4|10-1

This talk will discuss the recently introduced class of isogeometric finite elements, which generalize the isoparametric concept to B-splines and NURBS (Non-Uniform Rational B-Splines). The latter are one of the standard descriptions for free form surfaces and various typical engineering shapes in Computer Aided Design (CAD) software. Besides explaining the basics of this new approach, we will also address the issue of local refinement techniques and present a new hierarchical approach.
